The receiver have 0 Hdmi inputs so if your planning to connect more devices to use the surround sound then you will end up using Toslink cables. I am happy with my purchase and if this receiver had 2 or more Hdmi inputs then 5 stars across the board. If you want the rear wireless speakers to be wireless the Wireless transmitter are sold seperatly if that is a deal breaker or not. great sound, deep base. All-in-One 3d Blue Ray Home Theater System By 06ajtayl This product is designed and functions very well! The look of the product is very black and glossy, giving a clean and modern feel. I bought this item for the HDMI Auido return Channel, which after a little messing around with works great!! One cable from the TV to the Reciever gives sound from stereo for all items hooked to the TV or visa versa. No clutter!! (Must use HDMI v1.4 plugs and cables in order to get ARC functionality, my bad). When hooked to a CEC, Anynet+, or compatible DNLA devise through HDMI this unit auto sync's all functions to TV, ie. put in a blue ray, tv turns itself on, turns to the correct input, and starts up the movie. Also, comes with an ipod dock which charges the Ipod, WHEN THE STEREO IS ON (be better if it charged all the time) but gives great control over sound thought IPod's controls OR through the TV, I like searching through songs on the TV through the Ipod better. Th touch controls are super cool and eliminate the look of buttons (kinda like a dishwasher with no buttons on the front) However, have accidently bumped up against controls and turn the unit on or off a few times. Everything In One By Legnadibrom All you need in one system, just connect it to a TV and you're all set for a great home theater experience. I use this with a 46 inch Samsung LCD TV that I purchased a few weeks before this system. Initially I chose the TV because it has DLNA media sharing capabilities so I can stream all my shows and movies from my computer in my bedroom out to my comfy recliner in the living room. Then I tried watching a DVD on that TV with an old Sony player from 2004 to not very good results. So I decided to upgrade to Blu-Ray and went with this all-in-one package. Without disappointment. I stayed in the same brand family mainly because the TV was really great, plus the DLNA feature that Samsung implements in their Smart-devices is the future of media sharing and Samsung seems to be one of the only big brands to embrace the technology. Samsung's Anynet feature is also a great reason for getting a TV and player within this family because it simplifies quality settings, amongst other things like turning on/off with each other. As far as all the good things go - the picture looks great, both DVDs and Blu-rays look awesome and after some tweaking with the sound settings I have a healthy dose of bass and clear mid and high range. The audio setup wizard worked well with the detection mic and you can then adjust distance and volume for each speaker as desired...I pumped the subwoofer all the way up. 5.1 sound from Blu-rays is satisfying and the "3D" sound set on HIGH recreates surround sound for downloaded TV shows and movies streaming from my computer through DLNA,

I am running windows vista on my desktop and have a sony receiver and this thing works great. Last year I was in my attic running speaker wire from my receiver (indoors) to my outdoor speakers. I was dreading getting back in the attic to run an RCA cable from my computer to my receiver. So my search started. I found this item and boy did it save me a lot of time. I received it yesterday and it took me about 10 min to get this thing up and running. I set mine up by the quick start directions that sony provides. You do not have to load the software sony gives you. I use iTunes with it and it workds great. I can sit on my patio and control my iTunes via my iPhone and relax. O yeah you can also control your volume via your iPhone. I will say that all these products are in close proximity so its hard for me to speak for someone that is trying to run this through out a 2 story house. I am totally happy with ALT-A33PC! By Ellis Kwong Sound Perfect! I received my today and it works exactly the way I need! I have a Sony BDV-IS1000 5.1 Blu-Ray receiver with S-Air Surrounding speakers. In the beginning, I used a Sony TDM-NC1 Digital Media Wireless Audio Adapter (only works with Sony receiver with DM port) to connect my laptop to the receiver. I believe TDM-NC1 is in a very early stage of Sony wireless adapter development. It works but it requires re-pairing it to the laptop every time power it on or power the laptop on. And it drop connection from time to time. Also I can't make it streams the sound from IE. That means not sound from youtube, internet radio and all the new and fun things. Second solution: I used a Sony TDM-BT1 Digital Media Port Bluetooth Adapter (only works with Sony receiver with DM port). It is better because it works like a "wireless speaker output" and can transmit any sound from my laptop to the receiver. So it works with IE, youtube and anything. But, still, I have to re-pairing it every time power it on or power the laptop on. Plus, it is super sensitive to any movement around my laptop. The music often drop when I am moving stuff around or one of the software running heavily... Now, Sony finally gets it right. ALT-A33PC Wireless Audio Transmitter/Receiver (works with any receiver with RCA input) works right out of the box. I am listening to Internet radio now and no matter how I position the transmitter or even shaking it, the music is still playing with no hiccup! Sound quality is virtually no different from running an audio jack wire to the receiver directly. Of course, it supports only "analog stereo". At the time of my current purchase (yes, current purchase - I'll explain that later), the unit was $420 and is worth every penny (it's almost $100 less now, so there's really no excuse for anyone to not pick it up). For that price, you get a very good Blu-ray player, decent speakers (I'll get to that later too), and the ability to do all kinds of streaming to the device using either an Ethernet cable or the device's built in Wireless N certified antenna. The main reason I wanted this particular unit was two-fold. One, it is the only decent Home Theater System that has built-in DivX HD support, which means that it has the ability to play pretty much all types of media (MKV, AVI, DivX, MP4, MPG, etc...) off of a USB or from your home server. This was crucial. This Blu-ray home theater system also just so happened to match the design of my LG 42LH40 1080p 120hz LCD HDTV (seen here: http://www.amazon.com/LG-42LH40-42-Inch-1080p-120Hz/dp/B001VJHWTQ - AMAZING television as soon as you turn off the 'TruMotion' feature). So, this Home Theater System matched my needs. This was my first Blu-ray player, but I didn't even really get it for that. I mainly wanted to be able to stream all kinds of media to something in my living room that could also playback my DVDs and eventual Blu-rays. My Xbox 360 can handle all of my media, but that's in the bedroom. I needed something decent for the living room, and something to take advantage of my beautiful TV. So, after getting this system, I tried some Blu-rays out - and WOW! I've since bought almost 50 titles on Blu-ray. The picture and sound is amazing - but I'll get to that later! I've mentioned "current purchase" and "first purchase" in this review so let me explain that. This device originally had a manufacturing defect which caused a loud high pitch whistle sound (sounded like a tea kettle) to emit from the front right, rear right, and sometimes the center speaker. I was the first to document this online, and I did it on the Amazon message board on this very page. I also replied to several reviewers on this and the page for the LG LHB335 device. Others mentioned this problem on various websites (I'm not going to plug them here in my review), so trust me, this was a big problem. On top of that, I was in constant contact with the head of LG's Quality Assurance team. After talking to him about the issue, he admitted it existed and promised to find a fix. I grew impatient and saw the price for this device drop (around $80 from what I originally purchased it for) so I decided to return it and thought I would re-buy it at a cheaper price once he assured me a fix was found. Well, a fix was found. I re-purchased the device and it's working flawlessly. The fixed ones are manufactured June 2010 and later. If you purchase it and the manufacturing date is before June 2010, you will have the whistle sound. So, back to the review. There have been some firmware updates lately that added some new features (DivX TV - which is awesome, MLB TV, and Napster), so make sure the first thing you do when you get the device is to update the firmware. It's also good to do a factory reset the first time you do that just in case (me and at least one other person have noticed a bug that was solved when we did that - but it's possible that the bug would have been fixed with the firmware update that was released a few days after that - I don't know). It's also a good idea to go into the speaker settings and adjust the speaker distance (the amount of feet between each speaker and your usual listening position). Now, this device came with rather short speaker wires (probably the shortest out of any Home Theater System I've ever purchased). This was solved with less than $10 and a quick trip to Radio Shack. Answers to Basic Questions About Blu-ray What is Blu-ray? Blu-ray is a new optical disc format with over five and a half times the storage capacity of a standard DVD (25 GB versus 4.5 GB). A dual-layer Blu-ray disc can hold up to 50 GB of information. With that increased storage, movie studios can finally provide movies on disc in high definition, offering 6x the resolution or image detail of DVD and up to 8 channels of lossless (better than CD quality) digital sound. The new format can also provide interactive features that go well above anything ever offered before. Is Blu-ray different than HDTV? HDTV, or high definition television, is a new broadcasting format that offers widescreen, high resolution images offering 6x the resolution or image detail of DVD, with up to 5.1 channels of digital audio. Until now, the signals were only available through over the air transmissions (via an antenna), or through digital cable and satellite signals. You can not get HD signals from a standard video tape or DVD.  An HDTV is a high resolution video display that is capable of receiving and displaying these HDTV broadcasts or images.   Blu-ray is a complement to your HDTV. It's a disc media format that has enough storage to include an entire movie, plus soundtracks and bonus materials, recorded in the high definition format. You can play Blu-ray discs back on your HDTV and see the same, if not better image and sound quality as you do from HDTV broadcasts. What kind of TV do I need to enjoy Blu-ray? You can play back Blu-ray movies on any TV with composite video or better inputs (not RF), but to get a worthwhile benefit from the format over DVD you'll want to have a high-definition television, or HDTV, with a vertical resolution higher than 480p, and preferably higher than 720p. Most Blu-ray titles can deliver an image with a vertical resolution of 1080i or 1080p. The more horizontal resolution the TV can reproduce, up to 1920 lines or pixels, the better. How are Blu-ray discs different than regular DVDs? Blu-ray discs are the same size as DVD or CD, but use a blue* laser to store and read data as opposed to the red laser used in DVDs and CDs. The blue laser's shorter wavelength, combined with a smaller aperture lens and a thinner cover layer on the disc makes it possible to create a smaller beam spot size capable of storing and reading much more, smaller information on the disc.  A single-layer Blu-ray disc can hold 25 GB worth of data, compared to 4.5 on a standard DVD. A dual layer BD disc holds up to 50 GB. This translates into the ability to store a full 1080p HD image. This has a resolution consisting of 1920 by 1080 progressively scanned pixels, compared to standard DVD's 720 by 480 pixels.  In addition, Blu-ray has much wider bandwidth than DVD, delivering signals at speeds up to 48 Mbps, six times faster than DVD's 8 Mbps, and nearly 2.5 times the data of an HDTV broadcast's 19.2 Mbps.  *technically, it's violet, but who's keeping track? Will Blu-ray discs play in my current DVD player? No. You will need a Blu-ray player to be able to read the smaller, denser information found on a Blu-ray disc. Will I be able to play standar DVDs on my Samsung Blu-ray player? Yes. Blu-ray players are backwards compatible with your standard DVDs.  They can also play CDs. Is Blu-ray the same as HD DVD? No. HD DVD was a competing format with less storage capacity than Blu-ray. With Toshiba, its primary champion announcing on February 19, 2008 that they would end production of HD DVD products, the few companies that were supporting the format announced that they would instead create products for the Blu-ray format. What does up-conversion mean? Consumers have over 50 years worth of material in standard definition formats. Up-conversion is the process of taking that existing, standard definition material and converting it (lines and pixels are copied to some degree) to the higher resolution needed to display those signals on an HDTV. When done well, the process can often improve picture quality, though it can't increase actual resolution. The quality of the up-converter, included in everything from up-converting standard DVD players to Blu-ray players and HDTVs, can often determine the quality of the picture. What kind of cables, connections do I need to have to make Blu-ray work? You will need either a 3-wire analog component (typically labeled Y, Pr and Pb) or an HDMI digital video connection between the BD player and the TV. The HDMI connection is preferable. Not only will it provide better image quality, but it will pass along higher resolution audio and control information, as well. You may get limited up-conversion options with standard DVDs when using the component connection. What is firmware and do I need it? Firmware is like computer software, or the instruction set in the player that tells the hardware what to do under various conditions. Insert a disc, and the firmware tells the player to read the disc. Press the Play button and the firmware tells the player to play the movie. Generally speaking, the firmware is invisible to the end user. But Blu-ray keeps evolving, and new features keep being created. With each new feature that a movie studio comes up with, hardware manufacturers have to release new instruction sets, or firmware, to deal with it. Samsung's ability to easily update the firmware in their BD players makes them one of the best in the business.  Who supports Blu-ray? At this point, nearly everyone supports Blu-ray. All the major movie studios have announced that they would support Blu-ray with both new and catalog titles. Thousands of movies and music videos are already available. Most major electronics manufacturers have been supporting Blu-ray since the format's beginning. Can I rent movies on Blu-ray? Yes. Blockbuster, Hollywood Video and Netflix, among other places, offer Blu-ray titles for rent.  Are my regular DVDs obsolete? Not by the definition Merriam Webster would use. You can still play your regular DVDs on your Blu-ray disc player, so they're still useful, but you'll want to replace them with Blu-ray versions as they become available in the new format so that you can enjoy the improved image and sound quality.  Is the only benefit to Blu-ray the video quality? Why should I upgrade to Blu-ray? You will probably upgrade because of the video quality, but you may also appreciate the improved sound quality available on some players as well as the advanced interactive features.  Blu-ray offers the latest generation audio codecs that can play back up to 8 channels of surround sound with improved audio quality over that of standard 5.1 digital soundtracks. This includes Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS High Resolution and DTS Master Audio.  Blu-ray also offers advanced bonus features that can include interactive game features or picture-in-picture commentary tracks, not to mention additional features that could be downloaded after the disc has been produced.  Do I need to buy a new home theater system? You don't need a new audio system, but you should at least have a surround system (five speakers and ideally a subwoofer) with Dolby Digital or DTS audio decoding to hear the theater-like audio experience that is available on Blu-ray. Some BD players offer more advanced audio codecs that provide even better quality sound through up to 8 channels of surround.  What do all these audio formats mean? You can hear better-than theater-like audio at home. As George Lucas has said, sound is 50% of the movie experience. With the right audio equipment, you can hear up to 7.1 channels of sound that is no different than what the recording engineers heard in the mixing room.  What's the benefit of 24p? Movies are recorded on film at 24 frames per second (fps). Video is recorded and played back at 60 frames per second. Movies must be converted to 60 frames before being played back on your TV.  Blu-ray discs record movie content in the original 24 frame format, and convert the signal within the player to output at 60 fps for standard HDTVs. Some current HDTVs, like Samsung's Auto Motion Plus 120Hz models, and undoubtedly more future ones, can accept and play back the 24 frame signal without the intermediary conversion to 60 fps, which can offer a smoother, more natural-looking image.  What does Profile 1.0, 1.1, 2.0 mean? Blu-ray's specifications for video are broken into three profiles, each with its own set of hardware and software requirements. Profile 1.0 gave hardware manufacturers a grace period to create players that were capable of Blu-ray video playback, but didn't need to meet the final standard profile requirements. This grace period ended October 31, 2007. These players, while not able to take advantage of all of Blu-ray's promised extra content, will provide full 1080p video playback. Profile 1.1, also known as BonusView, makes certain requirements mandatory: picture-in-picture, secondary audio mixing, a minimum of 256MB of memory (built-in or removable), and the incorporation of a virtual file system. Players created and sold after October 31, 2007 are required to meet the Profile 1.1 specification, and therefore will take advantage of 1.1-enabled bonus materials on certain BD discs. BD-Live (Profile 2.0) makes mandatory all parts of Profile 1.1, but increases the memory requirement to 1GB and adds the hardware requirement of a network connection. Most helpful customer reviews 309 of 326 people found the following review helpful. Fine, basic player By Kevin Moore I've been using this for 2 weeks now, and it's my first blu-ray player (no PS3). The good stuff: Excellent look, not too loud, amazing picture and sound. Working ethernet and USB port. (I haven't had to download any firmware or code updates, but I'm sure it'll work fine.) Operations: No fan noise, no noise while playing, but during menu & loading, you hear some track-seeking which is audible at 10'... nothing offensive, though. I just noticed last night, after my 5th blu-ray a little flicker in in the bottom center of the screen during the credits of Juno... not sure if it's a bad disc or a player having a problem. It was repeatable, and the disc seemed clean. Lastly, the load time, eject time, etc seems just fine. Not instant or as fast a nice DVD player, but not noticably slow. I've heard alot about slow disc-loading, and if it is a problem on other players - it's not a problem on this one. Lastly, sometimes when you click on a menu instead of pausing, the screen with show a "progress-bar" for 2-4 seconds while the next manu loads, which isn't completely kosher, but doesn't bother me. The so-so stuff: I'm giving this 5-stars because it's near-perfect at what it's designed to do for it's price, but it's not perfect. One reason to get a mid- to lower-cost player is to (duh) save money... if you're someone who has an older receiver that doesn't decode the two new DD and DTS formats, and (probably) doesn't decode multi-channel PCM, this player isn't for you. It only has stereo-out analog RCA plugs, not 5.1 or 7.1 analog outputs. That means you can't bypass your receivers pre-amp to play the newer audio formats and let the blu-ray player decode them. My old Receiver (which I used the player with for a week) only decoded DD 5.1 (no DTS, and only 2-channel PCM to 48khz). This player lets you send a PCM stream to your receiver from an internally decoded DTS 5.1 signal, but this didn't work for me... as my player can't receive 5.1 PCM streams, it only saw it as 2-channel. At least the player lets you downsample 96khz PCM to 48khz, so that I at least got sound (Golden Compass only has DTS 5.1 or DTS HD Master). With my new receiver, all formats work perfectly, all bitstreamed. Some people perhaps are holding off for new receivers because they don't want to connect through the player's analog RCA 5.1/7.1 connectors - but this is probably mis-information. What you want to avoid is taking digital sound, converting it to analog, then back to digital, then back to analog... don't worry - you wouldn't be doing this. Basically you would be doing all your processing in the player digitally, then once it is sent out through the pre-outs to the receiver you'd bypass the receiver's processing and it would go straight to the amplifier (which is of course analog anyway). So my conclusion for thos people with older (but good) receivers - this blu-ray player won't save you any money. A lot of people recommended to me to get a PS3 for my blu-ray player but, for a variety of reasons, I decided I wanted a standalone player. After a lot of research, I settled on the Samsung BD-P1500. I hate clutter and went for it as this would be a single unit for Music, DVD/BluRay and Internet streaming (Netflix etc). Blu-Ray discs with 3-D surround sound are really amazing as I expected, DVD up conversion is great and sound quality of wireless S-AIR rear speaker is as good as wired (beware, they are wireless just with respect to main base/amp unit. The rear speakers have their own receiver unit that requires power plug and is wired to rear speakers. However, it serves my purpose as I don't need to run wires across my living room.). I was apprehensive that I am paying $100 extra and probably compromising on the sound quality just for little compromise of running wires across room. I did not find any compromise on sound quality (and I am quite picky). I did separate my WiFi router away from S-AIR, after reading about the possible cross-interference. That created another logistics problem: I sometimes watch movies on Netflix streamed through Internet and for best quality like to hook up the wire. Keeping router away meant that I ended up running cable across. Netflix streaming quality was awesome with wire and as good I had observed with PS3 (It's just a shade worse than DVD but way better than connecting via computer). The surprise was that WiFi connection worked almost as well as wired. So I ended up getting rid of this wire too. I have Sharp Aquos 52' LED TV and it seamlessly detects sound from this Sony unit whenever I switch to TV or switch on TV. One more tip that I discovered by chance. I have cheap $2, 6 ft generic HDMI cable and ~$10 mediabridge 6 ft and 15 ft (to connect my laptop to use TV as external monitor). While DVD and Blu-Ray disc quality was same on all 3 cables, Netflix streaming quality was way better with 6 ft mediabridge cable than other two. Probably one needs to buy decent quality shortest cable for limited signal/information relay via streaming. And don't believe in the crap that is floating on Internet. I know digital is 0 and 1. However, those morons forget that it's not just one 0 and 1; there is a stream of millions of 0s and 1s getting across. So it matters how many of those are faithfully transmitted. If input is great it does not matter, even crappiest of cable would do. However, if input is limiting, it does seem to make a difference. I did blind test with monstrously overpriced Monster cables and did not find any improvement over Mediabridge; so just the shortest and decent ones would do. I read one user complaining about lack of headphone jack on the system in reviews somewhere. IT EXISTS. Sony actually did one better. It put it on one of the rear speakers so that it's close to your couch. They just did a poor job of highlighting it. Not so detail oriented people might start crying it does not exist after not finding it on the main unit. Finally, I played tons of music from my iPhone using 3.5 mm to RCA connection (this unit can also play iPod/Phone via USB cable; I just had a very good quality 3.5 mm to RCA with me) and quality was good. It also has Pandora and other links that are suppose to become functional in next update. I tried Pandora via iPhone and it was great. I really can't see any problems with the system. Bottom-line: It may not be the system for extreme music lovers who want to push sound quality to ultimate purity and can hear notes that pass through 99% of the people. It is indeed a very good composite unit to hook up with your TV (for improved sound) and watch movies on BluRay/DVD/Netflix and avoid clutter of equipments without compromising on the quality of either of the individual functions. I am not into gaming but Sony should come up with PS3-BluRay-home theater combo too. If I have to find fault, my only disappointment is the unfriendly user manual, hard to navigate Sony website

Potter Just got this all-in-one Bluray theater today. In general it's a nice bargain (especially at the GoldBox deal from Thanksgiving). I use it in our Living Room to replace the TV speakers, so the sound is definitely an improvement. I probably wouldn't use this in a true "home theater" since the subwoofer isn't powered. But for general Bluray listening in the Living Room and for Netflix streaming, it sounds just fine. It does what it claims and has a lot of good streaming options (Netflix, Pandora, etc). Picture quality is excellent. Bluray player is similar to Sony's BDP-S370 player. However, unlike all of the reviews (on the Internet) of this unit that I read before purchasing, this unit does NOT have DLNA support for streaming music from your local network servers. In fact on page 35 of the included manual in the section "Playing files stores on a DLNA server" it specifically says: "Except for BDV-E370 U.S. models". This is extremely annoying. It's obvious to me that this device *used* to have this feature, which is why all of the older reviews mention it. My guess is that it was removed in a software update. Yes, I did the network update and now it says that no other update is available. I didn't check to see if DLNA was available before the update. The related setup page for DLNA called "Connection Server Settings" in the "Network Settings" screen is also missing. Unless you get a really good price deal on this, I'd recommend the BDV-E570 instead which has the DLNA support and also includes the WiFi adapter. I had a wired Ethernet, so the adapter wasn't a big deal. But if I had known that this unit really didn't support DLNA, I probably would not have bought it. Now that it's already installed and working, I'll probably keep it. Maybe we can convince Sony to put DLNA support back into this device. It's obviously just a software issue and I'm annoyed at Sony for not including this and am annoyed at the reviews that all say it has it when it doesn't. But that's why I'm giving only 4 stars. Update #1: Since there is no HDMI input, to hook up your cable box you need to connect the digital audio output of the cable box to the input on the E370. You use your TV to switch the video and use the E370 to switch the audio. The only problem with this is that the Sony E370 does not support discrete remote codes for the different audio inputs. It only has a "NextInput" command. So you'll need a smart remote (like a Harmony) that can remember what input is currently selected so that it knows how many "NextInputs" to send to the E370 to get it to the correct channel. Update #2: (12/17/2010) Just installed the latest v735 firmware and still no DLNA support :( Update #3: (2/11/2011) With the latest firmware update M04.R.752 I can confirm that DLNA support has now been added to this device. It automatically sees my Windows 7 computer on the local network and can play music and see photos. As others have reported, there still isn't any way to "shuffle" a play list, but that's pretty minor. I would now rate this item as 5 STARS. I received it one week later. The system was packaged very nicely and was easy to unbox and setup the system. I hooked up my DVR cable box into the Sat/Cable (Digital Coaxial input) jack. I hooked up my Playstation 3 into the TV (Digital Optical input) jack. (not into my television, but into the input named "TV" on the unit) When I try each source, it tells me on the unit's front LCD screen that I'm getting Dolby Digital. Using the unit's blu-ray, I watched the movie "Stealth". I must say it was like a whole new experience. I could hear those fighter jets

Nice Integration with Sharp TV By MLipenk The Sharp HE BDHP35U DVD BluRay Player works great coupled with my SHARP HDTV 46" LE810UN. Previous to getting this player, we were using a PS2 as our DVD player. I could have probably got a BluRay player for less but the integration with my existing SHARP TV was my main criteria and I was willing to pay a little extra for it. If your TV is compatible with AQUOS LINK (which mine is), you can control both the TV and the player with simple operations. I am able to perform simple functions of the TV with the player's remote and functions of the player with the TV's remote. When the playback on the player is started the TV automatically knows the input without having to specify the input (which I would normally have to do with our game consoles PS2 and Wii). When the player is stopped, turning off the TV automatically turns off the player too. When you switch to the LCD TV input terminal connected to this player, the power of this player will be turned on automatically. The image quality is wonderful on up-converted standard DVDs. I recently watched the BluRay "Gnomeo and Juliet" with the kids and the picture quality with this player on my Sharp 46" was nothing short of incredible! With the AQUOS LINK, images are automatically adjusted to the most suitable image quality for the AQUOS TV. So far I am really happy with this player and the integration with my SHARP TV. The eject seems a bit slow as does the load time of DVDs, but nothing that is completely intolerable. Note: the manual is clear that there may be firmware updates on Sharp's product page, which there are, which will improve playback of discs and Netflix. Normally I go with Amazon, but I purchased this from Abt Electronics because they had the best price at the time. Pros: Excellent Image Quality, Easy Set-Up, Seamless Integration with Sharp TVs, Backwards Compatible DVD Up-conversion, Wireless Internet via included dongle that plugs in the back. Nothing short of awful By Gregory L. Meece I bought this on sale at Fry's. What a mistake. For very basic BluRay discs, it does a fair job of playing them (hence the nominal 2 stars). The interface looks like it was designed in the early 80's, and many discs simply won't play properly on it. Example: Iron Man (first one) - about halfway through, it simply freezes. You will wait and wait and you'll get like 3 frames in 5 minutes. Finally, you stop the disc and eventually you get the atrocious interface back. I thought it was the disc, but returned the disc to the store and the exact same thing happened with a new copy of the disc. Other friends have the same disc - plays fine on their players. Oh, and try to update the firmware - that'll fix it, right? Not so fast partner! If you try to do a network update, it lies to you and says you're up to date. Go to the website and you see your firmware is way out of date. Go through the retentive and stupid USB flash update, it gets about 10% through and it tells you the update has failed. Lather, rinse, repeat. Oh, and did I mention that the login for both Netflix and YouTube doesn't work? When you try to access the text input box for Netflix, you can't select the text - up-down-left-right don't select the alpha characters, they select the interface behind that dialog box. So, Netflix is worthless. For YouTube login, you can activate both the username and password dialogs, but it refuses the OK button for the login button. One more thing - the product is supposed to support BD-Live. It does sorta. However, if you utilize the wireless connection it won't work unless you have a freshly formatted USB flash drive inserted where it can store content (there's NO internal

The major hurdle was figuring out what it allowed: linking the LED flat screen and Samsung Blu-Ray to our secured WiFi network. With our daughter, we had it going in just a few minutes and had far more options available that we would have thought. Great Bang for your buck By A.M.Boughey UPDATE - July 2010 New features added to Network Tageschau - Daily News feed in German Pandora - Internet Radio Fox Sports - Coming Soon Twitter - Coming Soon 5 Stars sounds really generous, but for the money this is a GREAT Network ready BDP. This is the third network BDP I have set up and used, I recently reviewed the Samsung BD-P1590 - Blu-Ray disc player - upscaling - Netflix, Pandora against which (for similar money) this is a far superior machine. I also think the picture quality and upscaling for SD DVD's in much better than the similar priced LG BD 370 Network Blu-ray Disc Player Running several Blu-Ray movies for testing, including BD live enabled content, boot times were very fast. The quick set up guide asks you about this and explains that it uses more power in standby mode, but it's worth it for very quick loading. Blu Ray looks SUPERB - Panasonic web site says (PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus is a high quality image-processing technology developed to precisely process each pixel of the Blu-ray Disc video signal in the vertical direction) Sounds geeky, but the picture is great at both 1080i and 1080p. By default the 24fps is set to off, but if you have a home set up that supports it, it's easy to switch back. SD Card slot, and USB interface great for home pictures, movies and photo's, very easy to use. Nicely tucked away under a discreet panel in the front so no fiddling among the back wires. Out of the box set up for networking took me about 15 minutes. Very easy on screen instruction, easy to use remote, and set up can be either set to easy mode, or you can revisit the main menu at any time for finer adjustments on audio, video output, resolution and aspect ratio etc. The more involved set up options are however a little limited if you are used to close to pro tweaking on high end visual and audio equipment. But then again, this is an entry level kind of priced machine. What do you get for network? The VIERA system is a breeze, nice graphics, menu screen and options. I hard wired mine to the back Ethernet port with a Cat6 cable - Cat5 works without a problem, but for streaming (especially HD content) the Cat6 made the Netflix signal bar light up to HD most of the time. It is wireless ready. You can use a USB dongle (takes some tweaking) or better still a Linksys by Cisco Dual-Band Wireless-N Gaming and Video Adapter. What's nice is that(unlike Samsung) you don't have to buy a special adapter. My preference would always be to hard line, but if that's not an option, and you must have wireless (assuming you have boat loads of bandwidth) you can buy an adapter, or pay $80 more and buy it's big brother the Panasonic DMP-BD85 WiFi Enabled Blu-Ray Disc Player (Black) Whats on the Network? 1)Netflix - unlimited free streaming movies (a lot in HD if your connection is good enough) documentaries, and TV shows from their "Watch Instantly" library, if you are a current subscriber of at least their $8.99 plan - free trial available. 2)Amazon on Demand - Bags of movies and content to rent, buy, or even view free webisodes, trailers, documentaries and so on. Not a huge thing for me personally as I like Netflix, but very nice to have. Simply activate online at Amazon and you're there - very easy on screen user friendly menus. 3)Blomberg - Sort of on screen RSS feed with stocks, bonds and news headlines. Nice to have but not essential. 4) Weather forecast, enter your zip code and set to default, or store multiple sites across the US for up to date weather news and information. Again, not something I need but nice to have. 5)Picasa Web albums - share pictures with friends and family, look at your own, and other albums on your TV. Almost ready for prime time By Chris Boylan Samsung's BD-C6900 is one of the first Blu-ray 3D players on the market (the other being Panasonic's DMP-BDT300 and upcoming DMP-BDT350). As a first generation Blu-ray 3D player, you have to expect a few glitches (and you'll get them), but if you're itching to watch 3D TV at home in full HD 1080p, this player will get the job done, with a few nice perks and one potentially major caveat. There is a lot to like about the BD-C6900 including super-fast boot-up and load times : 8 seconds to boot, 11 seconds to load a DVD and an almost unbelievable 18 seconds to load a BD-Java Blu-ray title ("Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl"). This is about twice as fast to load a BD-Java disc compared to the otherwise super-speedy OPPO BDP-83 player, and is less than 1/3 the load time of the Pioneer BDP-320 on the same title. It also offers a wealth of IPTV options and web widgets, including Netflix and VUDU streaming, YouTube and Pandora (among others). And with DLNA networking, you can connect it to your networked computers to access (and stream), audio, video and photo content like nobody's business. As a 3D player, it seems to perform exactly as designed - we say "seems" because the only real 3D content we have on Blu-ray 3D Disc to test with is the Monsters vs. Aliens promo disc that Samsung includes in the 3D Starter Kit. When connected to a Samsung UN55C8000 3D LED/LCD TV, the MvA disc looked fantastic using the Samsung active shutter 3D glasses. Yes we did see some "crosstalk" (interference between left and right channels), but this was caused by the TV, not the player. But as a 3D player, there is one little known caveat - yes the player is compatible with 2D TVs (in 2D mode) and with current HDMI 1.3 receivers, however, if you want to take full advantage of the audio and video capabilities of this player used with a 3D TV, then you will need to have one of the brand new HDMI 1.4-equipped audio video receivers. Current HDMI 1.3 receivers *cannot* pass through the HDMI 1.4 3D video signal to a compatible 3D TV. This means that if you want to take advantage of lossless audio codecs (Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio), your only option is to upgrade to an HDMI 1.4-equipped receiver or use the player's multi-channel analog outputs and let the player do the decoding. And this is neither the easiest to set-up nor the highest quality option as it relies on the bass management and speaker configuration capabilities of the player, which are weaker than the bass management capabilities of most receivers. Panasonic's Blu-ray 3D players get around this limitation by providing two HDMI outputs: an HDMI 1.4 3D-enabled output (to connect directly to the display or to an HDMI 1.4 receiver) and a legacy HDMI 1.3 output for connecting to an HDMI 1.3 receiver. Is this a show-stopper? It might be if you don't want to upgrade your receiver (again). But if you only use the speakers built into your TV (blech!), or you're happy with the legacy lossy surround formats (Dolby Digital and regular DTS) which you can get from the optical output, OR if you have an HDMI 1.4-compliant A/V receiver then this will not be a problem for you. As a standard 2D Blu-ray player, we found that the BD-C6900 was a mixed bag - some upconversion tasks like odd cadence detection and correction as well as standard 2:3 film cadence detection, were performed well, as was the player's treatment of diagonal lines: no jaggies visible here, even on the spinning white line torture tests on the HQV benchmark discs. But we were surprised to see some noticeable digital artifacts on standard Blu-ray Discs such as "Blade Runner" - the intro title sequence looked less than ideal with ghosting in the title sequence and beyond that, some noise and blockiness in the black backgrounds that we have not seen on other players. Not Great By Stephen I got the Sony UWA-BR100 for my mid 70 year old parents when I updated their TV/home entertainment system. My goal was to simplify the system and have them use as few remote controls as possible. I had just installed a Netgear wireless N router in their upstairs office. The signal with the Sony adapter gave 2 bars reception with the device plugged directly into the TV 3 bars with the device plugged into the USB extension outlet and the reader on top of the TV cabinet. My parents found navigating the Sony menu to get to Netflix very confusing. I found that the poor reception would cause streaming issues. I knew that my folks wanted Netflix, but would never use it if they couldn't easily figure out how it worked. I ended up installing a Roku player into a separate HDMI input. I got four bars of reception with the Roku device inside the component cabinet and noticeably faster response loading Netflix movies. My parents could easily navigate the Roku remote. The price of this device is too high for what it is, and what it delivers. 11 of 12 people found the following review helpful. Worked very well By Michael A. Bynack I bought the UWA-BR100 Wireless adapter to go with a Sony BluRay player. I tried two other wireless adapters with the BluRay, but discovered that we had to have this specific type and model to make it work. The adapter worked exactly like it was supposed to. As soon as I plugged it in and started the BluRay it came up to the configuration page and allowed me to enter the access codes for my home WiFi. The reception on the unit is very good and it loads faster than the Netflix on our Wii. I'm a little disappointed in Sony for requiring you to purchase a separate piece to connect to the wireless LAN. See all 20 customer reviews...

I had been waiting a long time for one that had a good set of features and a reasonable price. Overall, in the 2 weeks I've had it, I've really loved it. I'll go over the good and the bad of this Blu-ray player. First the bad: The remote, like all Sony remotes, are very basic. It handles the Blu-ray player functions fine. It also has built in TV remote functions as well. I have a Sony Bravia TV that is about 2 years old. However the remote doesn't work for about half of the functions, making this remote useless for controlling the TV. The remote can be set to a handful of TV brands. You would think that it could at least handle a Sony TV properly. NOTE: When registering the device on the Sony site, this model is not listed (as of this review). I selected the model S570 instead and that worked for me. When playing a Netflix movie, one time the movie locked up the player. It didn't respond to the remote, then completely restarted itself. Of course it didn't remember where it had stopped in the movie and I had to search to find where I was to finish the movie. Hopefully this doesn't happen often. At the time of this review DLNA has not been included with the player and will be available later, so I could not test this out. Being that it isn't relly a new thing, you would think that they'd have this already included. AVI file playback is only avalable to Canada players. The buttons on this box are tiny and the labelling is just as small and hard to read. Pale white print on black is always hard to read. In a dark area it is nearly impossible, even with the little light that it shines on the lower button panel, so using the remote is the way to go. Don't forget it when you go to load a disc. You'll probably end up memorizing button locations if you like to use the buttons on the player itself. If you are playing a disc and decide to stop play for any reason, it exits disc mode entirely, connects you to Gracenote, and returns to the Xross menu. Forget about returning to where you stopped. You have to go back to the very beginning of the disc loading process. You have to point the remote directly at the player to get it to do anything. It's very picky about this. The good: This is a very nice machine. It oozes high-tech. It is small and lightweight and no bigger than the slim Sony upconverting DVD player it had replaced. They could have used the exact same case for it. Load times are excellent. There is a setting that can have it load even faster if you don't mind keeping it powered in standby mode. The Sony Xross menu system makes sense and is easy to navigate. The menu is in 1080p, so it looks smooth and not cheap like other older players have done. Setup was a breeze. Plug in your connections and power it on. You're ready to go. You just have to register the device with Sony and Netflix and Amazon if you use those services. Simple and quick. Sony already had a software update for the player, so I had it do the update and it was done after a few minutes. There are a number of on-line sites you can visit for music, music videos, a handful of movies and other misc. on-line video content. Assuming that the original on-line content is in good quality, the video picture quality is very nice. You can use your DVDs to play your own content. You aren't restricted to using the USB connection. If you have a supported video or audio format stored on a disc, you can play it on this player. Really awesome. I look forward to the DLNA support coming later. I'll be able to connect to my PC where I have my own video and photos stored there. Standard DVD playback is excellent. This is not just upconverted playback. It also puts it in 24p and it also appears to have cleaned up the DVD picture quality, so it's seriously close to Blu-ray quality. For your regular movie you'll start to ask
